Scentcare. Giving a product the category it deserves.
scentcare /ˈsɛntkɛə/ noun. The set of products and rituals built to give fragrance structure, performance and longevity on skin. The care layer beneath every perfume.
Category coined by DEFERT in March 2026, for OBART.
Where the word comes from
In early 2026, OBART, a French and Korean beauty start-up, briefed us on a product: the first fragrance primer, born in a Seoul lab, giving any scent up to eight extra hours of wear.
A good product with a hard question attached. Where does it stand? The skincare aisle? The perfume aisle? A fragrance primer is the bridge between the two, and a bridge has no shelf. It needed a world of its own.
The brief said "when fragrance meets skincare". It did not contain the word scentcare. Nobody's did.
So we named the missing layer. Scentcare: the care category fragrance never had. In March 2026 the word entered the OBART brand platform with a definition and a positioning (the first scentcare brand). The primer became step one of a new routine.
Brand Credo
If you love perfume, you know it has never been just perfume.
Perfume is memory folded into molecules. It's mood suspended in air. It's an identity you carry before you speak. And yet fragrance has always been treated like a final gesture. Something misted on and left to fate, as if what we love most about it required no preparation, no structure, no real care.
We all know how skincare transformed makeup and how haircare changed color. Scentcare simply does the same for fragrance.
Because scent is not an accessory, we believed it deserved its own "care" category, one that treats it as something built, not merely applied. It is not a pleasant addition or a decorative extra. It is the foundation that makes everything else stand together.
And once you experience it, the shift feels less like an invention than a correction, as if this is how fragrance should have been treated all along.
OBART. The first scentcare brand.
What happened next
July 2026: Sephora took OBART on as an exclusive and announced it as the first scentcare brand. Within weeks the word had left our documents. The beauty press was using scentcare as a category rather than a product line, and Sephora had stopped quoting the brand and started speaking for itself: "Introducing our first scentcare brand."
That possessive is the whole thing. A retailer says "our" about a shelf it believes in, not about a word it borrowed. OBART launched worldwide from there.
Why a category
A category cannot be copied without being joined. Every brand that does scentcare from now on has to use the word and explain itself against the one that got there first.
That is what OBART owns now. Not just a primer but a category, launched across Europe and the United States, that everyone else will have to enter through.
